In the AIMS5.0 project, IPH is responsible, among other things, for providing an autonomous drone that can be used to measure an unknown environment using a laser scanner. Until now, the development of path planning algorithms at IPH has largely been carried out in a simulation that only bears a distant resemblance to reality. This has led to a number of problems in the past, which are now to be circumvented with a new simulation tool.

Your tasks

An existing functioning simulation environment is to be optimised by you using the GPU and then examined.

The following exciting tasks await you:

  • Theoretical development of the functionality of a GPU incl. VRAM and definition of the programming interface (CUDA vs. opencl)
  • Software design for the implementation on the GPU with naming the interfaces to the CPU
  • Realisation of the software design in C++
  • Testing and validating the software quality

Further tasks and topics that are of interest to you can be worked out together. Afterwards there is the possibility to continue using reinforcement learning (AI).

Your profile

You are studying one of the following subjects:

  • Computer science
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Business informatics
  • electrical engineering
  • or a similar subject

You are interested in working on new and challenging tasks. You also have knowledge of programming with C++.

It is also desirable that you are interested in long-term co-operation after completing the task.
